Inflation destroyed the Roman empire and laid the economic and political foundations for World War II. Is the inflation we are currently experiencing a threat to not only our standard of living but our very civilization? On this internship students will learn what the phenomenon of inflation is, how it is measured, and what causes inflation. Students will also examine past historical instances of inflation and their particular causes. Finally, students will conduct research on what current mainstream and historic economic models of inflation have have to say about our current situation, and will utilize these frameworks to produce a prediction of expected future inflation.
During this month-long Internship you will research the economics of inflation and examine its potential impact on the global economy. Collaborating with your fellow interns, you will undertake research on this timely and crucial issue, and with your mentor's guidance you will co-author an academic research paper for publication. Mainstream academic theory defines investment risk as 'volatility' as calculated by standard deviation. However, opinion is divided amongst the academic community as to the validity of this metric, and some of the world's most successful investors such as Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, and Mark Cuban openly reject it. On this internship you will (i) discover why standard deviation is used to measure investment risk and discover its limitations, (ii) investigate and critique alternative conceptions of investment risk, (iii) recognize how deficient metrics for investment risk may have directly led to historically significant investment losses and asset bubbles such as the infamous Long-Term Capital Management (LTCM) collapse, and (iv) theorize how a more holistic measure of investment risk might avoid these pitfalls.
During this month-long Internship you will conduct original research on the formulation and measurement of investment risk. Collaborating with your fellow interns, you will investigate and more deeply understand this fundamental financial concept, and with your mentor's guidance you will co-author an academic research paper on this topic for publication. No previous knowledge of investment theory or economics is required to participate.

Cancer remains one of modern society's most deadly and poorly understood diseases. Despite repeated promises from medical researchers of an imminent breakthrough, sadly none have been forthcoming. Furthermore, standard treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy entail serious physical and psychological effects, and generally have low probabilities of long-term success.
Natural medicine provides an alternative to such treatment modalities, but how does the effectiveness of such therapies compare? Moreover, does an integrative approach combining standard and alternative therapies provide any demonstrable benefits over and above the use of a single treatment paradigm alone?
During this month-long Internship you will conduct original research on the current state-of-the-art in cancer treatments. Collaborating with your fellow interns, you will critically evaluate the effectiveness of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation versus alternative natural cancer treatments, respectively and in combination. In addition, with your mentor's guidance you will co-author an academic research paper on this topic for publication. No previous knowledge of medical science is required to participate.

While pharmaceuticals have many crucial medical applications, they also have limitations. Explore competing paradigms of care for one of the fastest growing global illnesses, type 2 diabetes. Compare long-term health outcomes of applying pharmaceutical-based chronic models of care, with potentially curative lifestyle changes. Additionally, learn also how the medical field is advancing beyond chronic models of care to curative approaches more generally.
During this month-long Internship you will conduct original research on type 2 diabetes treatments. Collaborating with your fellow interns, you will critically evaluate the extent to which type 2 diabetes is indeed a lifestyle choice, and the consequences of not treating it as such. In addition, with your mentor's guidance you will co-author an academic research paper on this topic for publication. No previous knowledge of medical science is required to participate.

Internship Details
The law and economics are intrinsically interlinked, but perhaps in no domain is this connection more evident than in competition law. Competition law seeks to maintain and promote the beneficial effects of market competition by regulating anti-competitive conduct of companies. Such regulations date back to the Roman empire but came to the forefront of modern economic and legal debates with the rise of nationwide corporations during the industrial revolution.
Discover whether Amazon or Google today are dangerous monopolies requiring government oversight, or if they are held in check by the forces of competition. Learn how competition law works and scrutinize on-going debates in the field, such as the pitfalls of regulatory capture and the benefits of profits in maintaining cost efficiency. Likewise, discover how international monopolies and cartels such as De Beers and OPEC are able to flout national anti-trust laws to the detriment of the global economy.
During this month-long Internship you will conduct original research on competition law. Collaborating with your fellow interns, you will investigate and more deeply understand the economics of monopoly as well as this important domain of law. In addition, with your mentor's guidance you will co-author an academic research paper on this topic for publication. No previous knowledge of legal or economic theory is required to participate.

The law represents the socially enforced boundaries of behavior, whereas morality circumscribes the actions society considers to be just. Investigate how these concepts are related as well as the dimensions along which they differ. Furthermore, how have these social constructs evolved over time? What role does morality play in the law, and conversely how might the law influence morality? Is it in fact socially desirable that morality and the law do differ? In addition, is it just to refuse to comply with immoral laws, or like Socrates should you consider the will of the state to be absolute? These complex interrelationships between law and morality have emerged as a central question in contemporary jurisprudence. On this internship you will explore these questions while summarizing the legal literature in this field.
During this month-long Internship you will conduct original research on morality and the law. Collaborating with your fellow interns, you will investigate contemporary legal thought, and with your mentor's guidance you will co-author an academic research paper on this topic for publication. No previous knowledge of legal theory is required to participate.

Internship Details
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a sophisticated tool in the data sciences to address complex human problems. Having surpassed human experts in trivial applications such as games of Chess and Go, AI now has ever expanding applications in advanced applied research and commerce including; algorithmic trading, self-driving vehicles, medical decision-making, and military strategy. However, what will the future hold for Artificial Intelligence? Which applications are indeed viable, which will only remain fantasy, and what unexpected areas might we in fact see AI successfully applied. Are the dystopian sci-fi portrayals of AI as eventually replacing humans justified, or will AI continue to expand mankind’s economic opportunities without supplanting the need for humans entirely?
During this month-long Internship you will conduct original research on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Collaborating with your fellow interns, you will evaluate how AI is currently being applied to domains of commerce, and will examine its potential to replace human intelligence across other fields in the future. In addition, with your mentor's guidance you will co-author an academic research paper on this topic for publication. No previous knowledge of computer science is required to participate.
